IPAWS Modernizes Public Emergency Notification
During an emergency, State and local public safety officials need the
capability to provide the public with potentially life-saving
information as soon as possible. The Integrated Public Alert and Warning
System (IPAWS) is an integration of the nation’s alert and warning
infrastructure that provides public safety officials with an effective
way to alert and warn the public about serious emergencies. IPAWS is
available to Federal, State, territorial, tribal and local alerting
authori- ties and can be integrated with local systems that use Common
Alerting Protocol (CAP) standards.
